POST: Graduate Trainee

SERVICE AREA: Finance Divisions within Individual Sponsoring Organisations      

RESPONSIBLE TO: Placement Line Manager

 

PURPOSE OF ROLE

  • The trainee is required to successfully complete the Graduate Trainee Scheme consisting of a rotation of work placements and studying for a CIPFA professional qualification.
  • The trainee is expected to maximise opportunities provide by the Graduate Trainee Scheme to establish a career in public sector finance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To undertake a development programme to:
    • Achieve a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of financial services within the public sector.
    • Attain a CIPFA professional qualification.
  1. As directed, undertake rotational work placements within the sponsoring organisations to develop practical skills and knowledge.
  1. To actively contribute to, and participate in, the development and maintenance of your development plan in liaison with your mentor.
  1. Ensure attendance at the designated CIPFA training facility and the dedication of adequate time for study and completion of course work to enable you to attain the CIPFA qualification.
  1. To attend and participate in internal and external training courses, seminars and other events to support your personal skills development and knowledge in management practices.
  1. To work with your line manager to develop your placement work plan, to ensure you are undertaking tasks and projects that will progress your technical and personal development.
  1. To complete assigned tasks and projects to a standard that will make a positive contribution to the work of your placement team.
  1. To ensure that your duties are carried out in compliance with relevant legislation and the organisation’s policies and procedures, eg Data Protection, local accounting procedures, equality and diversity policy, etc.
  1. During your placement ensure you comply with the organisation’s expectations for standards of conduct and performance.
  1. To provide constructive feedback and suggestions that will support the future development of the Graduate Trainee Scheme.

Education, Experience and Knowledge

Educational, Technical & Professional Expertise

  • A university graduate within the last 2 years with at least 2:1 achievement in any degree background and 300 UCAS points

  • Conversant in the use of personal computers and Microsoft computer software packages (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • An understanding of the role of financial management and accounting within the sponsoring organisations.
